Description
Made in France – Limited reproduction
A faithful reproduction of the original 17th-century tarot engraved by Jacques Viéville, master cardmaker in Paris between 1643 and 1664.
Unlike the standard Marseille pattern, the Viéville Tarot stands apart for its reversed orientations, archaic spellings, and whimsical details that reflect the spirit of early French engraving.
This 1984 reissue by Héron & Boéchat, Maîtres Cartiers à Bordeaux, was published to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the “Tarot, Jeu et Imagie” exhibition at the Bibliothèque Nationale. It perfectly preserves the rough lines and lively colors of the original woodcuts.

🪶 Collector’s Note
The Viéville Tarot is one of the few surviving complete tarots from 17th-century France, a bridge between the Flemish and Marseille traditions. Its naïve charm, archaic lettering, and unique iconography make it an unclassifiable masterpiece for historians and collectors alike.
Extremely rare outside of France — this limited 1984 reproduction has become a sought-after edition among connoisseurs of historical tarots.
