Antique Great Mogul playing cards manufactured in Belgium, probably during the early 20th century, accompanied by their original illustrated paper wrapper. The wrapper features the name Great Mogul and the distinctive emblem The Celebrated Eagle Brand. The ace of spades bears the inscriptions “Dieu Pour Tous” and “Manufactured in Belgium”.

The Great Mogul playing-card tradition dates back to the late 19th century. The design was produced as early as 1880 by Brepols for the English market and subsequently by A. Van Genechten of Turnhout, Belgium, who registered the Great Mogul trademark in 1881. Various manufacturers produced their own versions, often featuring different colour schemes derived from the traditional English court-card pattern.

The Celebrated Eagle Brand trademark was registered by Van Genechten in 1904. Its presence on the original wrapper strongly suggests that this particular edition dates from the early 20th century, most likely after 1904. Although the precise production year cannot be established, the historical trademarks support an attribution to A. Van Genechten.

The surviving illustrated wrapper, ornate court-card designs and distinctive red patterned backs make this an appealing example of Belgian playing-card production, particularly interesting to collectors of antique playing cards and historical European editions.

🪶 Collector's Note

The Great Mogul playing cards represent a fascinating chapter in the history of Belgian playing-card manufacturing and the international popularity of English-pattern playing cards.

Originally produced for the English market during the late 19th century, the Great Mogul design was adopted by several Belgian manufacturers, including Brepols and A. Van Genechten.

The combination of the Great Mogul name and the Celebrated Eagle Brand emblem is particularly noteworthy. Both trademarks are historically associated with A. Van Genechten, making this example an interesting witness to the company's production and commercial history.

The illustrated original wrapper is an important surviving feature, especially when considered alongside the remarkably fresh condition of the cards themselves.

Although the precise date of manufacture remains uncertain, the historical evidence suggests an early 20th-century Belgian edition, probably produced after 1904.

A distinctive collectible deck that preserves both the artistic character and commercial heritage of traditional Belgian playing cards.

Kings, Queens and Jacks appear in elaborate traditional-inspired costumes, while the cards feature both Western indices and Arabic script. The two decks have different ornate, carpet-inspired backs in red/blue and cream/red colorways.

📜 Collector’s Note

This distinctive late-1970s Piatnik issue is particularly appealing for its fully illustrated court cards and elaborate ornamental backs. Although marketed under the period title “Arab,” its imagery actually draws upon several different peoples of North Africa and the Middle East, including Bedouin, Berber/Amazigh, Tuareg and Turkish figures. The combination of Franz Küngraber’s colorful artwork, the two contrasting back designs and the survival of both decks unused and sealed makes this an attractive example of Piatnik’s themed playing-card production of the period.

The vivid, highly individual artwork makes this an especially recognizable modern French tarot, while this 2010 GKomm Diffusion edition printed by France-Cartes is of particular interest to collectors of unusual European decks.

Exceptional and increasingly hard-to-find Oswald Wirth Tarot Deck, published in 1982 by U.S. Games Systems and printed by AGM Müller, Switzerland.

Created by the renowned Swiss occultist, Freemason, and esoteric author Oswald Wirth (1860–1943), this historical tarot is considered one of the most influential reinterpretations of the Tarot of Marseille ever produced.

This example remains factory sealed, an increasingly uncommon condition for an early U.S. Games edition.

🔹 Designer and artist: Oswald Wirth.
🔹 Publisher: U.S. Games Systems.
🔹 Printed by: AGM Müller, Switzerland.
🔹 Country of publication: United States. Year: 1982.
🔹 Number of cards: 78.
🔹 Card size: 13.3 × 7.3 cm (5¼ × 2⅞ inches).
🔹 Language: English booklet included.
🔹 Condition: Factory sealed. The original box shows some signs of wear caused by age and storage, as shown in the photographs.

🪶 COLLECTOR’S NOTE

The Oswald Wirth Tarot occupies a special place in tarot history because it bridges the gap between the traditional Tarot of Marseille and the French occult revival of the late nineteenth century.

Wirth collaborated with influential occult circles and drew inspiration from the teachings of Stanislas de Guaita, one of the leading figures of French esotericism. His deck transformed the tarot into a symbolic system intended not only for divination but also for philosophical and spiritual study.

The 1982 U.S. Games edition is particularly desirable because it represents one of the earliest American publications authorized by Wirth's successors. At a time when historical tarot decks were still largely unknown outside Europe, this edition introduced English-speaking collectors to one of the most respected decks in occult literature.

Today, early U.S. Games examples—especially factory-sealed copies—have become increasingly difficult to locate. Their historical importance and limited availability continue to make them highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Exceptional Jeu de la Princesse Tarot, a fascinating historical reproduction published by Éditions Dusserre, Paris, in the mid-1980s, faithfully recreated from the rare 1843 edition attributed to Johannès Trismégiste.

This unusual tarot belongs to the Etteilla tradition, one of the earliest systems specifically designed for cartomancy rather than game play. Inspired by ancient Egypt and 19th-century occultism, the deck presents a completely different interpretation of the tarot.

Unlike traditional tarot decks, this system numbers cards from 1 to 78 and includes printed divinatory meanings directly on each card, reflecting one of the earliest structured tarot reading methods.

🔹 Details:
• Publisher: Dusserre (France)
• Period: c. 1980s
• Based on: Etteilla system (1843 variant)
• Size: approx. 3" x 5"

🔹 Condition:
• Very good vintage condition
• Cards thick, semi-glossy, sturdy
• Box and booklet included

🪶 Collector’s Note

Jeu de la Princesse Tarot, published by Dusserre in the 1980s, is a faithful reproduction of a rare 19th-century Etteilla tarot, inspired by an 1843 model.

Unlike traditional tarot decks, each card is numbered from 1 to 78 and features its divinatory meanings printed directly on the card, transforming the deck into a symbolic book to be deciphered.

Highly sought after by enthusiasts of historical cartomancy, this deck represents one of the earliest modern forms of tarot divination.

Its limited production, distinctive artwork and association with historic French cardmaker Grimaud make it particularly desirable for collectors of rare artistic and European tarot decks.

Authentic second-generation Le Tarot d'Argolance, created by French artist Pierrick Pinot and handcrafted in France in 1984.
Inspired by the medieval symbolism of Oswald Wirth, this remarkable tarot is far more than a reinterpretation of a classic deck. Pinot developed an entirely personal artistic vision, combining traditional tarot imagery with his own symbolic language and artisanal craftsmanship.

Published in a strictly limited edition of approximately 999 numbered copies, each deck was individually signed and numbered by the artist. This example is No. 327, as shown on the original numbered authentication card.
Housed in its original handcrafted wooden presentation box, this second-generation edition has become particularly desirable since the original wooden cases are no longer produced.

🔹 Edition: Second Generation
🔹 Limited Edition: No. 327 of approximately 999 copies
🔹 Cards: 22 Major Arcana + 2 extra cards (presentation card + signed & numbered certificate)

Exceptional Printing Process

🔹 Card backs printed in elegant black and metallic gold silkscreen.
🔹 Double satin varnish applied on both sides for durability.
🔹 Entirely handcrafted production.

🪶 Collector's Note

The unusual name Argolance evolved from Pinot's original title Argoland, a poetic fusion inspired by both the legendary voyage of the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece and the ancient secret language known as argot, once associated with wanderers, beggars, and thieves.

For Pierrick Pinot, tarot represented both:

• a symbolic vessel capable of carrying the seeker toward inner illumination;
• and a hidden language whose mysteries reveal themselves only through sincere study and practice.

The project began after Pinot discovered Oswald Wirth's "Tarot des Imagiers du Moyen Âge" in 1978. What started as a personal redraw of Wirth's deck gradually evolved into one of the most distinctive handcrafted French tarot editions of the twentieth century.

The deck is referenced in:

📚 Stuart R. Kaplan — Encyclopedia of Tarot, Volume III, page 75.

Le Tarot d'Argolance is considered one of the finest handcrafted French tarot productions of the 1980s. Its extremely limited production, artisan manufacturing process, original wooden presentation case, and direct connection to the symbolic tradition of Oswald Wirth make it highly sought after by collectors of rare tarot decks and bibliophiles. Complete numbered examples such as this one rarely appear on the market.

The initiatory tarot of the masters is a tarot of 22 blades, published in 1997. This game, with a very strong symbolic connotation, is inspired both by Genesis, the Koran, the Bible, Kabbalah, alchemy and the Apocalypse of Saint John.

This deck is sought after for its unique structure, its mystical symbolism, and its introspective depth.

The deck is accompanied by a charming vintage red leather pocket case, dating from approximately the 1940s–1950s. Although not original to the cards, it provides elegant storage and complements the deck beautifully.

🔹 Complete 32-card deck + 1 Jocker

The red leather case shows attractive vintage wear with minor scuffs and rubbing, adding to its character while remaining sturdy and fully functional.

🪶 Collector's Note

French playing cards bearing the 1890 République Française tax stamp are highly collectible historical artifacts from the Belle Époque. A remarkable and highly decorative handmade checkers game crafted in the Italian Alps during the interwar period.

Entirely made and pierced by hand, this beautiful wooden game board originates from Calalzo di Cadore, in the Belluno province of the Dolomites, a region renowned for its long tradition of woodcarving and folk craftsmanship.

The board is richly adorned with openwork scrollwork and numerous fleur-de-lys motifs, repeated across the playing surface and on the original white playing pieces. Beneath the board, a practical drawer system with original compartments stores the complete set of counters.

An original handwritten inscription appears on the board: "Lavoro a Mano" ("Handmade"), proudly certifying its artisanal creation. Additional handwritten inscriptions record its place of origin and date:

Calalzo di Cadore – Agosto 1928

making this an authentic nearly century-old survivor.

Details

🔹 Origin: Calalzo di Cadore (Belluno, Italy)
🔹 Date: August 1928 (handwritten inscriptions on front and underside)
🔹 Material: Hand-carved wood
🔹 Complete with 22 original playing pieces: 12 white and 10 red. Please note that 2 red pieces appear to be missing.
🔹 White counters decorated with fleur-de-lys motifs
🔹 Openwork carved border throughout
🔹 Original handwritten "Lavoro a Mano" inscription
🔹 One-of-a-kind folk-art creation

Condition

Good antique condition overall.

The board remains structurally sound and complete, with the original counters and storage drawers present. As expected for a handcrafted object approaching one hundred years old, it shows signs of age and use, including surface wear, minor losses to the decorative carving, and a natural age-related crack visible across the playing surface. These imperfections contribute to its authenticity and historical charm.

🪶 Collector's Note

Handmade gaming boards from the Italian Dolomites are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially examples that remain both dated and signed by their maker. The inscriptions identifying Calalzo di Cadore and August 1928, together with the handwritten mention Lavoro a Mano, elevate this piece beyond a simple game into a genuine document of local craftsmanship.

Unlike factory-produced boards of the period, every element here—from the intricate fretwork border to the pierced fleur-de-lys motifs—was individually executed by hand. Its survival with the original counters and drawer mechanism makes it a particularly attractive example of early twentieth-century Italian folk art.

A wonderful decorative and collectible piece combining traditional Alpine craftsmanship, folk art, and antique gaming history.

🪶 Collector's Note

Created during the golden age of French astrology, Le Tarot Astrologique is one of George Muchery's most intriguing and elusive creations. Unlike conventional tarot decks, it was conceived as a genuine astrological divination system, incorporating planets, zodiac signs, the Ascendant, and other key elements of traditional astrology.

The artwork by Henri Armengol perfectly captures the elegance of the Art Deco era, while the large-format cards make the deck particularly striking in use and display.

Complete examples are seldom encountered today, especially outside specialized occult collections. Its combination of historical importance, astrological content, and period artwork makes it a highly desirable acquisition for collectors of French esoterica, astrology, and early divinatory card systems.

Unlike the standard boxed edition, this scarce version was issued in an elegant black leatherette travel wallet in the 70s, transforming the Horoscope Belline into a portable consultation kit. Designed for readers on the move, it discreetly resembles a personal organizer or diary while concealing a complete divination set inside.

Designed for readers on the move, this elegant zippered case contains the oracle deck, a notepad, miniature pencil, and dedicated compartments, creating a complete divination kit that could easily be carried in a handbag or briefcase. Far less common than the standard boxed edition, this format was intended for practical daily use and is seldom found intact today.

🔹 Publisher: Grimaud, France
🔹 Title: Horoscope Belline – Travel Edition
🔹 Date: circa late 1970s
⚠️ Cards: 51 cards present (card no. 32 is missing)
🔹 Card size: 9 × 6 cm
🔹 Artwork: Distinctive minimalist illustrations characteristic of late-20th-century French graphic design and esoteric publishing.

🔹 Cards show normal signs of use consistent with age.
🔹 Card No. 32 is missing.
🔹 Please note that the zipper is no longer functional and does not fully close the case.
🔹 Original notepad and miniature pencil are still present.

🪶 Collector’s Note

While the standard Horoscope Belline deck can still occasionally be found, the original travel consultation kit is considerably rarer. Most examples have lost their wallet, pencil, or accessories over the years. This surviving set offers a fascinating glimpse into the practical world of French cartomancy during the 1970s, when divination tools were increasingly adapted for everyday use.

The Ancien Tarot de Marseille by B.P. Grimaud is one of the most influential decks of the 20th century. In 1930, Paul Marteau reinterpreted the 1760 Tarot de Marseille by Nicolas Conver, giving it vivid colors and slight design changes that set the standard for modern Marseille tarots.

🔹 Very rare 1969 vintage edition of the Ancien Tarot de Marseille by B.P. Grimaud (green box version)
🔹 The green box shows some signs of age and wear from storage (edge rubbing, slight fraying) — see photos
🔹 Cards are in very good condition, with vivid colors and almost no handling wear (like new)
⚠️ 14 cards have a small handwritten notation in the upper left corner(last picture) apparently from a former owner's cataloguing system. Aside from these minor marks, the deck remains remarkably clean, with bright colors and crisp cards. The rest of the deck is free of writing and in excellent condition.
🔹 Includes the original booklet in French
🔹 Highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs of Marseille-style tarot decks
🔹 Traditional Marseille structure with 78 cards and French titles

🪶 Collector's Note

By the late 1960s, Grimaud was still producing this deck in different print runs. The 1969 "Green Box" edition belongs to one of the earliest modern reprints after the Second World War. It reflects the growing interest in tarot during the esoteric revival of the 1960s and 70s, when cartomancy, mysticism, and New Age spirituality were becoming mainstream once again.

Today, the 1969 green-box edition is considered rare and collectible, because later Grimaud decks adopted new packaging designs and different printing styles. Owning this deck means holding a bridge between the classical 18th-century Marseille imagery and the modern tarot revival that spread internationally during the second half of the 20th century.

A fascinating and uncommon piece of French esoteric history, this card appears to originate from an early 20th-century occult publication inspired by the teachings of Papus (Dr. Gérard Encausse) and the broader Martinist tradition.

The card represents La Force (Strength) and presents a rich network of symbolic correspondences drawn from the French esoteric tradition.

🔹 Arcana No. 11 – La Force
🔹 References to Saint-Yves d'Alveydre
🔹 Original mounted vintage card
🔹 Approximate card size: 12 × 7.7 cm (4.72 × 3.03 inches)
🔹 Presented inside a rigid magnetic photo holder/frame
🔹 Magnetic display holder size: 9 × 13 cm (3.54 × 5.12 inches)
🔹 Ready for display
🔹 Visible wear and patina consistent with age and use of the card

🪶 Collector's Note

During the first decades of the twentieth century, numerous French occult reviews and correspondence courses distributed tarot and initiatory teachings through detachable supplements. Students often mounted the cards themselves, creating personalized working sets that combined tarot symbolism, astrology, Kabbalah, and the teachings of influential occultists such as Papus and Saint-Yves d'Alveydre.

Rather than being part of a commercially manufactured tarot deck, the card was likely issued as a collectible magazine insert or educational supplement. Readers would cut out the cards and mount them onto cardboard to gradually assemble a complete set for study and divination—a practice common in French occult circles during the interwar period.

Surviving examples are increasingly difficult to find today, particularly as individual pieces. Beyond its value as a tarot-related artifact, this card is a genuine fragment of the French occult revival that shaped much of modern Western esotericism.

A wonderful addition to any collection of tarot history, Martinism, occult literature, French esotericism, or rare paper ephemera.

An extraordinary contemporary reinterpretation of the Tarot de Marseille by French artist MOOLINEX, produced in a strictly limited edition of only 500 copies.

Printed entirely by silkscreen (serigraphy) using five vibrant colors on heavyweight 260 gsm paper, this deck transforms the traditional Marseille archetypes into bold, playful, and slightly irreverent works of art. The oversized format allows every detail of the artist's distinctive linework and color palette to shine.

The set is housed in its original screen-printed red paper box (320 gsm), itself a collectible piece of graphic design.

🪶 Collector's Note:
Unlike mass-produced tarot decks, this edition was created as an artist's object. With only 500 copies produced, it occupies a unique place between contemporary art printmaking and tarot collecting.

🔹 I Tarocchi di Paracelso (The Tarot of Paracelsus)

🔹 Published in 1993 by Antonio Delfino Editore, Italy.
🔹 Complete deck with original box and booklet.
🔹 Large-format cards measuring 14 x 7 cm, beautifully printed with artwork inspired by alchemical miniatures and Renaissance symbolism.
🔹 Condition: Cards are in very good condition. The box shows visible wear and rubbing from storage and age, as pictured.

This unusual and highly collectible Tarot was inspired by Paracelsus (1493–1541), the famous Swiss physician, surgeon, philosopher, astrologer, and alchemist of the Renaissance. Considered one of the founders of modern medicine, Paracelsus sought to unite science, nature, and esoteric wisdom.

The imagery of the deck draws inspiration from alchemical traditions and the celebrated illustrations of the Splendor Solis, one of the most beautiful alchemical manuscripts ever produced. The result is a unique Tarot that bridges mystical symbolism, Renaissance philosophy, and hermetic teachings.

Published by the respected Italian publisher Antonio Delfino Editore, this edition has long been out of print and is rarely encountered on the collector's market.

Perfect for collectors of rare Tarots, alchemy enthusiasts, historians of Western esotericism, and lovers of unusual European Tarot decks.

🪶 Collector's Note:
A scarce Italian Tarot dedicated to one of the most influential alchemists of the Renaissance. Large-format cards, distinctive artwork, and limited availability make this a desirable addition to any serious Tarot or occult collection.

About This Edition

Unlike ordinary tarot decks, this set was created as a cultural and artistic object linked to a unique immersive performance exploring the symbolism of the Major Arcana. Visitors to Forte Sperone encountered actors embodying each archetype of the tarot in a dramatic journey through the historic fortress.

The reported limitation to just 27 copies suggests that this edition may have been reserved for collaborators, sponsors, or a very small circle of participants, making it extraordinarily scarce.

🪶 Collector’s Note

A truly exceptional piece at the crossroads of tarot history, Italian theater, and fine art. Combining the visionary world of Emanuele Luzzati with the experimental spirit of Teatro della Tosse, this complete 1991 set stands among the rarest and most unusual tarot-related artifacts to surface on the market.

For collectors of Emanuele Luzzati, theatrical ephemera, and historically significant tarot editions, this is a museum-worthy acquisition.

🪶 Collector’s Note

All cards were made with my own intuition, intention and energy during a transitional time in my life. My artwork always reflects where I am on my journey and I bring that forth to life to help you in yours. I am not against the use of AI and use it for help in certain areas for productivity, but for me, as an artist, it’s important for the essence of my work to come from my own heart and imagination.

One of the most sought-after French fantasy tarots, Le Tarot d’Ambre is illustrated by Florence Magnin and based on the legendary saga Le Cycle des Princes d’Ambre by Roger Zelazny. Originally created as part of the Ambre role-playing universe, this tarot blends the structure of the Marseille tradition with vivid fantasy artwork and iconic characters from the novels.

The Major Arcana follow Marseille symbolism while portraying heroes and scenes from Amber. The Minor Arcana are rich, colorful, and detailed, with court cards directly inspired by the series. The deck’s fantasy landscapes give each card a dynamic, almost living atmosphere.
This edition — published by Jeux Descartes in 1994 — has become incredibly hard to find complete.

Most surviving sets show heavy wear, making a copy with pristine cards and the original booklet exceedingly rare. The images are beautifully printed on ivory-toned cardstock, respecting the original 18th-century engravings.

✨ Historical Context
The Grand Tarot de Belline was designed by Edmond Billaudot (1829–1881), also known as Magus Edmond, a famed 19th-century seer. He famously used this tarot to guide Emperor Napoleon III, making it one of the most legendary French oracular decks.

⚠️ Note: This edition is strictly limited to 150 facsimile copies. Once sold out, it will not be reprinted.

This version is way easier to use than the original one because of its size. The Original is I believe for collectors, cards are very big and became extremely expensive.
