The Universal Manouche Tarot of the 21st Century was conceived and illustrated by Sandra Jayat in 2002. A painter and novelist born to Gypsy parents, Jayat created this tarot as a living transmission of Romani spiritual heritage—an oral culture preserved through memory, symbolism, and ancestral wisdom.

This unique tarot departs from classical European structures. The traditional figures such as the Emperor or Empress are deliberately absent, as they did not exist within Gypsy tribal culture at the time tarot symbolism emerged.
