On the stones and menhirs of Ireland, it is still possible to see engraved Oghams (you must pronounce oyhams or owhams). Practiced from the 5th to the 7th century, this Celtic writing owes its creation to Ogmios, Gallic god of knowledge. Like the runes, of Germanic origin, or the Chinese Yi-King, the Oghams bring together the energies of the universe, allowing men to communicate with the divine.

They are represented as a rod formed of notches extending to the right, left or even wrapping around the rod itself. Each Ogham has a corresponding tree or symbol, a reference to the Celtic calendar.

Numbering 25, the Oghams can be read from bottom to top and from left to right. It is said that they corresponded to an alphabet used with the fingers (5 fingers, 5 oghams) that the Druids used, as a form of language, secret and coded.
