Antique Arcana
€409.00 EUR
This product will be available for sale in 2 weeks, but you can pre-order now to receive 10% discount!
Exceptional original uncut printing sheet poster of I Tarocchi del Re Sole (The Tarot of the Sun King).
Conceived and illustrated by renowned Italian artist Paolo Piffarerio, celebrated for his elegant historical and adventure comic artwork.
Published in 1986 by Lo Scarabeo Azzurro, under the direction of Piero Alligo, during the formative years of what would become one of the world's most influential tarot publishers.
This large-format production sheet displays the complete tarot deck exactly as arranged before cutting, including the 22 Major Arcana, court cards, and suit cards, with the matching card backs printed on the reverse side.
Inspired by the grandeur of Louis XIV's France, the deck reimagines traditional tarot archetypes through the lavish costumes, courtly elegance, and historical atmosphere of the Sun King's era.
🔹 Approximate size: 71 × 50 cm (28 × 19.7 inches)
🔹 Condition: B+ (Very Good) – well preserved overall, showing only minor imperfections and light signs of storage.
🔹 An impressive and highly decorative piece, equally appealing to tarot collectors, historians of playing cards, and admirers of vintage Italian illustration.
🔹 Ideal for framing and display as a unique example of tarot publishing history.
🔹 Will be shipped carefully rolled in a rigid cardboard tube.
Early Lo Scarabeo uncut sheets are among the most desirable production artifacts from the golden age of modern tarot publishing. Produced in relatively small quantities and rarely preserved, they offer a fascinating glimpse into the manufacturing process behind some of the publisher's earliest artistic decks.
Created in 1986, I Tarocchi del Re Sole belongs to the pioneering generation of Lo Scarabeo decks that helped establish the publisher's reputation among tarot collectors worldwide. Paolo Piffarerio's detailed black-and-white illustrations evoke the splendor of seventeenth-century France, giving the deck a distinctive historical character unlike traditional Marseille or occult tarot designs.
Complete uncut sheets from this period are seldom encountered on the market and are increasingly sought after by both tarot historians and Lo Scarabeo collectors.
