Rare double set of transformation playing cards, published by Carta Mundi for Aurelia Games, Brussels, circa 1977.
A humorous political interpretation of the Commedia dell’Arte: one deck caricatures Flemish politicians, the other Walloon politicians.
Created by journalist Jan Bauwens and illustrated by Belgian political cartoonist Stef van Stiphout (1931–1995).
🔹 Each deck contains 55 cards: 52 suited cards + Joker + 2 extra cards. 110 cards total.
🔹 Card size: 88 × 64 mm (3.46 × 2.52 in).
🔹 Condition: Cards virtually as new. Boxes and booklet excellent. Outer sleeve very good with some age/storage wear, as pictured.
Commedia Dell’Carte is much more than an ordinary pair of playing-card decks. By creating separate Flemish and Walloon courts while sharing the transformed pip cards, the set humorously reflects Belgium’s linguistic and political duality. It is also documented by noted playing-card historian Albert Field (1987, p. 165), making it an especially interesting piece for serious transformation-card collectors.
