Antique Arcana
€95.00 EUR
Vintage Oswald Wirth Tarot Deck in a blue window box, manufactured in Switzerland by AGMüller and distributed by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. The packaging bears the product code OW78 and the distributor's New York address.
This edition belongs to the 78-card publishing tradition based on Wirth's esoteric Major Arcana. His original 22-card tarot appeared in 1889; the larger commercial deck combines those designs with four suits of Minor Arcana. The photographed cards feature French titles, strong outlines, vivid colors, and gold-toned backgrounds. The card backs carry a fine red geometric pattern on yellow.
🔸 Artist / Creator: Oswald Wirth (original Major Arcana designs).
🔸 Manufacturer: AGMüller, Switzerland.
🔸 Distributor: U.S. Games Systems, Inc., New York, USA.
🔸 Year / Edition: Vintage blue window-box edition, product code OW78. The exact printing year is not confirmed.
🔸 Number of cards: The box specifies 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. The card count of this individual copy has not yet been verified.
🔸 Technique / Production: Color-printed cards, made in Switzerland; the box states that it was printed in the USA.
🔸 Languages: French card titles and English box text; the visible printed insert includes French text.
🔸 Contents: Tarot cards, blue window box, and the folded printed insert shown in the photographs. The insert's full contents remain to be checked.
🔸 Condition: The box shows pronounced rubbing along edges and corners, exposed cardboard, surface scuffs, and creasing. The photographed cards retain clear imagery and show some edge wear; the remaining cards have not been individually assessed. The printed insert shows folds, and its interior has not been examined.
🪶 Collector's Note
The blue window box, Swiss manufacturing imprint, and New York distribution address are useful details for comparing copies of this edition.
The yellow patterned backs also provide a recognizable feature beyond the illustrated card faces.
For collectors studying the reception of Wirth's work, this expanded format offers a different context from his original Major Arcana-only tarot.
Its interest lies in that publishing history and in the physical characteristics of the surviving set.
A firm printing date and a claim of completeness require further examination of this copy.
