Jeu des Philosophes de l’An II – Rare French historical reproduction deck by Éditions J.C. Dusserre, printed in France.

Originally created in Paris in 1793 (Year II of the French Republic) by Master Gayant, this unique Revolutionary deck replaced the traditional court figures with symbolic representations:

• Kings → Philosophers (Voltaire, Rousseau, La Fontaine, Molière)

• Queens → Virtues (Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Strength)

• Jacks → Soldiers of the Republic (Sans-Culotte, Fusilier, Artilleryman, National Guard)

The original is preserved in the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris. This faithful reproduction by Éditions Dusserre captures the Enlightenment and Revolutionary spirit, making it a true collector’s item.
