Suits of trades 1984 French Deck of Cards
Description
Description
Wonderful deck made by Edition Dusserre c.1984, based upon a series of grotesque, cyborg-esque engravings made in the 17th century by Nicolas de Larmessin, known as his “costumes des métiers” (“costumes of the trades.”) In these engravings, the various tradesmen and women are shown wearing clothes made of the tools and products of their respective professions. The originals of the engravings are housed in the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris, and the court cards and Jokers of this deck are based upon them.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus an extra card listing the trades depicted. The cards are wide, measuring 88mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
New and never used(near mint).
