The original 1935 Visca Catalunya deck was produced during a period of strong Catalan cultural and political identity shortly before the Spanish Civil War. Rather than merely reproducing standard Spanish playing cards, artist Molné transformed the traditional suits into distinctly Catalan symbols, creating one of the most visually distinctive regional decks ever published. Fournier's facsimile edition preserves this remarkable historical design and has become increasingly difficult to locate complete with its original packaging.
