A beautiful and lovingly made extra large edition of the classic Visconti - Sforza.

This deck is special in that it includes the 4 missing cards from the original edition: The Devil, The Tower, The Knight of Coins, and the Three of Spades. They have been reconstructed specifically for this particular edition by Giovanni Scarsato di Milano.

This deck (tempered on paper with multiple overlapping layers), commissioned by Francesco Sforza, dates back to around 1450. It came to us with 4 missed cards (Devil, Tower, Knight of Pentacles and Three of Swords), 35 are currently in the Pierpont-Morgan library in New York, 26 at the Accademia Carrara and 13 are part of the private collection of the Colleoni family of Bergamo.

This is the 518 of only 1000 reprints by Il Meneghello, the missing cards mentioned above are present, skillfully reconstructed by the miniaturist Giovanni Scarsato on the occasion of this particular edition.
The cards are made of cardboard with rounded corners measuring 173 × 87 mm.

A rare and highly unusual historical tarot deck published in France in 1987 to commemorate the Millennium of the Capetian Dynasty (987–1987).

Created by French artists and cardmakers Gilles and Anne-Marie Hipeau, this remarkable deck was issued as part of the official celebrations marking one thousand years since the election of Hugues Capet, founder of the Capetian royal line that ruled France for centuries.

Rather than depicting traditional tarot figures, the deck reimagines the tarot through French royal history. Thirty kings and queens, alongside emblematic historical figures such as Joan of Arc and Eleanor of Aquitaine, replace the conventional court and major arcana characters while preserving the structure of a complete 78-card tarot deck.

This copy is No. 75 from the limited "dessin" edition of only 140 numbered examples.

Printed on Arches Pure Rag Vellum Paper (Papier Vélin Chiffon Arches Pur), one of France's most prestigious fine-art papers traditionally used for printmaking, engraving, and watercolor.

Produced according to the methods of the old French master cardmakers, the cards were printed on laminated paper stock and issued in two versions:

• 140 numbered "dessin" editions (black-and-white)
• 50 numbered and signed color editions

NOT JUST A TAROT, IT IS AN INCREDIBLE PIECE OF ART!

This deck is known by several other names, including Tree of Thoth Tarot, Tarot of Great Painters, Le Tarot des Grands Peintres, and Arbre du Thot. This is the First Edition of the deck, printed by Editions Ergonia in 1979.

The cards have never been used for readings and have only been removed from the wooden box a few times for viewing. The cards are in near mint to MINT unused condition. This is a Major Arcana only deck, consisting of 22 cards.

The illustrations were taken from classical paintings from several time periods. This deck was printed in France in two different sizes, this is the bigger of the two sizes. The smaller edition was briefly distributed in North America by US Games Systems in 1981.

This deck contains two additional cards, in French, one giving the artist for each card, the other showing the Arbre du Thoth (Tree of Thoth) which gives correspondences for a part of the body for each card (11 body parts). The pack is taken entirely from extant paintings and other art forms whose original inspiration was not necessarily related to tarot. The Encyclopedia of Tarot (Vol. 3, pg 224-2251) also gives the title of each painting with artist. This is a very hard to find set, in amazing condition!
