This rare mini tarot was originally distributed with a French magazine in 1998, making it a true ephemeral publication rather than a mass-market deck. Such magazine-issued tarots were often printed in limited quantities and discarded over time, which explains their increasing scarcity today. A delightful collectible for Marseille tarot enthusiasts and vintage tarot hunters alike.

The Taromantic is a simplified instructional version of the traditional Tarot de Marseille, designed as an accessible learning tool for beginners and students of cartomancy.
Each card includes printed meanings directly on the card, along with interpretive notes influenced by neighboring cards, allowing the reader to understand interactions and combinations without memorization. This makes the Taromantic both a didactic tarot and a practical reading deck.
The deck focuses on clarity, structure, and pedagogy, offering a straightforward introduction to Marseille symbolism while preserving its essential archetypal language. Often described as a “tarot tutorial in card form,” it was produced during a period when French publishers emphasized educational divination systems.

Cards are in very good condition, clean and well preserved.
The original box shows visible wear and small tears consistent with age and use, dated 1987 (see photos).
🪶 Collector’s Note
The Taromantic (1987) occupies a distinctive place in modern French tarot history as a bridge between traditional Tarot de Marseille imagery and late-20th-century pedagogical cartomancy. Published by Grimaud, it reflects a period when tarot was increasingly taught as a structured language rather than an intuitive art alone.
Because meanings are printed directly on the cards, complete sets in good condition are increasingly sought after by collectors, educators, and beginners looking for historically grounded learning decks. A concise, honest, and intelligently designed tarot — now out of print.

The deck of Jean-Pierre Payen is a bit distant from the traditional standard. The drawings here are treated with quite a bit of freedom. Thus we find flowers here and there throughout the deck, which have nothing to do with symbolism. Still, this deck was copied on older decks, retaining vestiges of them. This teaches us many things, keeping in mind that the one who made this deck first wanted to make a stylistic effect.
Jean-Pierre Payen was originally from Marseilles, but he was to settle in Avignon, the city of Popes neighboring the city of Marseilles.
Edition on 400 gr paper in beautiful colors of a tarot of type I according to the originals of several Museums. Limited edition handnumbered. 1500 copies.

This is a rare facsimile reproduction of the Tarot de Paris, one of the earliest known complete tarot decks, originally created between 1600 and 1650. Published in 1985 by André Dimanche in collaboration with Société Le Jeu de Marseille, with cards manufactured by Grimaud, this edition faithfully preserves the original deck held in the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris.
Each card carries the discreet “BN” stamp (Bibliothèque Nationale) and features the original black line woodcut illustrations with hand-stenciled coloring in vibrant red, mustard yellow, green, blues, browns, and pinks. Unlike later reproductions, no linework has been retouched or modernized, keeping the authentic early 17th-century style intact. Printed on thick, cream-colored cardstock with a semi-gloss finish.
The Tarot of Paris predates the Conver Tarot de Marseille (c.1760) by as much as 150 years, making it a historically significant piece in the evolution of tarot imagery and symbolism.
